Ray Isham

OBITUARY FOR RAY E. ISHAM Together Again. Ray E. Isham (88) rejoined his beloved companion Evelyn on March 25, 2007.

Ray was a true gentleman, always helping others and treating everyone with kindness and respect. He passed away peacefully at the home of his son William R. Isham (Jean) at Alpine, UT where he had been living for the past five years. Ray was born August 3, 1918 in pocatello, ID to Ogden M. and Isabel P. Isham. He graduated from pocatello High School in 1936. He married his High School sweetheart, Evelyn Rogers Hall May 23, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized May 23, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He remained active in the church for the rest of his life, serving in several different callings. Ray and Evelyn were married for sixty- two years at the time of Evelyn's passing in the year 2000. They loved their life together and were virtually inseparable.

Ray was a true gentleman and a great athlete. He and his brother Merel, lead pocatello High School to the State Basketball Championship in 1936. Ray was a great golfer and loved the game his whole life. When WWII broke out Ray joined the Army and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

Ray retired as the Car Distributor for the Idaho Division, Union Pacific Railroad in 1978. He worked part-time as an assistant golf professional which kept him near the game he loved. Ray was a scratch golfer in his younger years and was proud of the fact that he shot his age for eighteen holes every year from the time he was 69 until he was 81. He was able to play a little until the last three years of his life when his health no longer allowed him to play.

Another love of his life was music. He had a wonderful voice and sang at the Bannock Hotel and for many weddings and funerals. He loved singing around the piano with his family at home.

Ray worked hard his whole life. He earned money when he was six years old selling newspapers, and as a young boy boxing at the old Moose Hall. He worked for a short time for his father-in-law at the Arthur W. Hall Mortuary. He then was employed and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He also held part time jobs including working as an assistant golf pro and at the Bannock Hotel. He dearly loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his sister Emma (Dee Womack), his brother Merel P. (LueCille) and his parents. He is survived by his daughter Bette Jean (Richard L. Farris) Traverse City, MI, his sons William R. Isham (Jean), Alpine, UT and Steven E. Isham, Canoga Park, CA. seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren.

There will be a viewing at the Manning Wheatley Funeral Home, 510 North 12th, pocatello, ID, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm Wednesday March 28th and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
