Inkom - Karl Var Belnap, 70, of Inkom, passed away peacefully Monday, morning April 16, 2007 at Portneuf Medical Center, surrounded by his family following an illness. He was born February 28, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of Karl Lester and Ruth Wilker Belnap. He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School. He attended I.S.U. for one year.
He served an L.D.S. Mission (Spanish Speaking) to Texas and New Mexico. On August 21, 1959 he married Ellen Fay Hunt in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple.
He worked as a carpenter in the car department for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He used his carpenter skills to build his own home in Inkom in 1976. He also built several other homes in the surrounding area.
He was active in the L.D.S. Church and served in various callings including, Scout Master, Elders Quorum President, Bishop's counselor and Gospel Doctrine teacher. He enjoyed reading and had a large library of church books and others. He had a beautiful voice and sang at many church and community functions. He was offered a full-ride scholarship to sing in the B.Y.U. Choir.
His greatest joy was being with his family and grandchildren. We sure love our Dad. Var's family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Portneuf Medical Center for their loving care of their husband and father.
Survivors include: his wife, Ellen F. Belnap, Inkom, Idaho; four sons, Mark Edward (Tami) Belnap, Pocatello; David Kent (Sonja) Belnap, Pocatello; Scott Lavar (Zithrely) Belnap, Tucson, Arizona; Dale McKay (Ashleigh) Belnap, Inkom, Idaho; three daughters, Denise Marie (Mark) Helmandollar, Inkom, Idaho; Teresa Kay Belnap, Pocatello; Fay Lynn (Chris) Foster, Twin Falls, Idaho; three brothers, Keith (Marilyn) Belnap, Mesquite, Nevada; Lee (Chris) Belnap, Sandy, Utah; Ross (Judy) Belnap, Blackrock, Idaho; 22 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ellen, and a granddaughter, Cindy Marie
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Inkom L.D.S. Church with Bishop Kirk Grover, of the Skyline Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Inkom Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Inkom L.D.S. Church and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
