Zina Rose Call

Pocatello - Zina Rose Steed Jensen Call, 93, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at a local assisted living center from causes incident to age.

She was born December 16, 1916, in Plymouth, Utah, to Annie Rose and James William Steed. Zina is the third of nine children, six of whom have preceded her in death.

She is survived by one sister, Flora (Glen) Latimore, Pocatello, Idaho and one brother Ursal Steed, of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

Zina attended elementary school in Plymouth, Utah. She graduated from High School in McCammon. She later moved to Brigham City, Utah with some of her sisters, where they were employed by a local cannery.

In Utah, she met and married Glen Jensen and they later moved to Pocatello. Zina worked on South Second in the old cannery, where she candled eggs(the process of holding an egg to a candle to ensure it is safe to be sold at market). In the late 1950's, Zina took a custodian crew position at the ISU Student Union building, eventually settling in the Life Science's building where she was recognized for outstanding accomplishments and tremendous work ethic. She retired in the late 1970's.

After Glen Jensen's passing, Zina met and married her eternal partner, Ellis Call in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1984. Ellis was her best friend, her dancing partner and fishing buddy until his passing in 1997.

Zina was an avid gardener, always busy planting and cultivating both flowers and vegetables in her yard, where she found much pleasure in the Summer. Nothing was ever wasted by Zina, fruits and vegetables must be preserved.

Over the passed 13 years, since Ellis's passing, Zina received much assistance from Ellis's daughter, Dorothy (Gene) Brzek, their children and grandchildren; from Brenda and Don Pollard, who have adopted her into their family; her dear friend and dancing partner, Jim Condie, and many many neighborhood friends and church members.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews besides her sister and brother.

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Lavelle Rudd, Beth Peterson, Cleone Peterson and Janet Stoddard Anderson; 2 brothers, Edward James Steed, Carl Steed and nephew, Dennis Steed.

Zina's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Rosetta Highland Hills Assisted Living and to Creekside Hospice for their loving care toward Zina.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Central Stake Center (225 Oakwood) with Bishop Rod Johnson of the Cedar Second Ward officiating.
