Pocatello - Zatel J. Porter, 89, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Blackfoot, where she had resided for a short time. She was born August 19, 1919 in Grouse Creek, Utah, a daughter of Quinn A. and Viola Emma Shaw Jorgensen.
As young girl, she attended schools in Cache County, Utah. She also lived in the Salt Lake City area for a time. On June 30, 1940, she married Vincent J. Porter in Blackfoot, Idaho. He passed away July 27, 1997. She lived most of her married life in Pocatello and was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Eastern Star. For many years, she owned and operated Porter's Day Care Center on East Center St. in Pocatello over 30 years. After her retirement, she was active in the Moose Lodge. She loved all of her children from the Day Care and over the years many of the children she cared for would come to visit her in their adult years and she enjoyed their visits very much. She loved her own children and grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by them and all who knew her.
Survivors include: a son, James V. (Tina) Porter, Goodyear, Arizona; 3 daughters, Pat Panopolos, Pocatello; Debbie (Craig) Caudill, Pocatello; Jennie (Floyd) Herrman, Blackfoot, Idaho; a brother, Delmar (Shirley) Jorgensen, Lake Stevens, Washington; Rachel Hobbs, Caldwell, Idaho; Ileen Fitzgerald (Daun) Wright, Marysville, Washington; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Carol Ann, a brother, Carroll Jorgensen and a niece.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2008 at 12 noon at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel and Friday for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Mountainview Cemetery.
