Tyhee - Willard Junior Bullock, 78, longtime resident of Pocatello and Tyhee area passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at his home following a long and courageous battle with mesothelioma cancer.
He was born January 20, 1931 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho (the first of his siblings to be born in a hospital) a son of Willard Edwin and Sarah Mabel Barrow Bullock. He was raised in McCammon, Idaho where he attended schools and graduated from McCammon High School in 1948.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Los Angeles until 1954.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Pocatello where he met his future bride Sharon Cutler. They were married February 18, 1955 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
He worked for Garrett Freightlines, Becker Industires and then worked at the INL for many years in construction and warehousing where he was hired out of the Teamsters Local 983, retiring in 1989.
He was active in the L.D.S. Church and served in many callings including; Young Mens President, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Executive Secretary and Bishop of the Seventh Ward. He also served as a temple officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple for several years.
He enjoyed logging and logged in the Island Park area. He also liked raising cattle on his place in Tyhee. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He taught them all the value of work. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Bullock, Tyhee, Idaho; 3 sons, Erick (Kim) Bullock, Darren (Alane) Bullock, Grant (Becky) Bullock, all of Pocatello, Idaho; 2 daughters, Kristina (Scott) Boyd, Gillette, Wyoming; Carrie (Todd) Smith, Pocatello, Idaho; 3 brothers, Lynn (Una) Bullock, Leo Bullock and Stan (Louise) Bullock, all of McCammon, Idaho; a sister-in-law Melba Bullock, Pocatello, Idaho. 24 grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin, Glen (Trace), Clyde, Claude, Tom and Milton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tyhee L.D.S. Stake Center (corner of Tyhee Road and Moonglow Lane) with Bishop Paul Bastian, officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery in McCammon with military graveside rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
