Boise- Wendell Harold Andersen passed away December 16, 2010 at the age of 90. He was born January 17, 1920, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Harold Peter and Reeta Loy Andersen. Wendell was the second of eight children.
He grew up working on a farm in Little Lost River and graduated from High School in Arco, Idaho. He moved to Pocatello to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, and retired at age 65 after working most of his career as an engineer. He is also a WWII veteran, having served with a railroad battalion in Germany.
Wendell met and married his wife of 64 years, Betty Lou Rutledge, in Pocatello. They had five children and fifteen grandchildren.
Wendell was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Karen Maness, son-in-law Ted Maness, daughter-in-law Norene Andersen, brothers Lyle and Cleon, and sister Iola.
He is survived by his son B.D. "Butch" (Bonnie) Andersen of Spokane, daughter Ilene Janosky of Pocatello, daughter Beverly Severson of Boise, daughter Gwen Jones of Pocatello, sisters Maureen Neiderer, Donnamay Kolman, Gladys Young and Clysta Reid. He is also survived by all fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grand children.
In his younger days, Wendell developed a love for horses from his father who owned and trained race horses. He enjoyed rodeos, where he participated by riding bucking broncos and Brahma bulls. He also loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, camping and boating with his family. Most of all he enjoyed dancing with his wife Betty. He and Betty were well known in Pocatello for their dancing talent. He will be remembered for his wit and humor, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services for Wendell will be held on Wednesday December 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Manning- Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave., in Pocatello, Idaho with Bishop Rojelio Campos of the Pocatello L.D.S. 18th Ward officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening Dec. 21. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow the service at the Logan, Utah, Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with Military Rites provided by the South Cache American Legion. Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
