Wayne Lawrence Wiegman, 71, passed away on Saturday July 18, 2020 in his McCammon home after a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Lauraine Weldon and his son Jonathon. He is survived by his children Ellen (Craig) Rasmussen, Jeremy (Debbie; deceased) Wiegman, Benjamin (Mandi) Wiegman, Rebekka (Clark) Christensen, Peter (Sharla) Wiegman, David (Jasmine) Wiegman, Sara (Joshua) Beck, and 35 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Linda Shell.
Wayne was born in Spokane, Washington on March 19, 1949 to Lawrence Alfred and Angie Beatrice Chesbro. He was raised in New Mexico and his family moved to Orlando, Florida when he was in high school where he met Diane. They shared their homeroom class and soon became engaged. Both Diane and Wayne went to the University of Florida; Diane majoring in English and Wayne majoring in Engineering. The two were married in Orlando on August 30 in Diane’s family home. Months later, Wayne was sent to basic training and from there was sent to the Navy base in Morocco, Africa. Diane was able to join him on the base in February and the two welcomed their first child, Ellen, into the world in December.
While on the base, Wayne and Diane were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning to the United States, Diane was baptized in 1972, Wayne was baptized in 1975 (the year their second child, Jeremy, was born), and the couple, along with their two children, were sealed in the Ogden temple for time and all eternity on June 5, 1976. August 1976, the Wiegman family moved to their home in McCammon where the remaining children were all born and raised.
Wayne loved his family and he loved the gospel. He made time to regularly be in the temple and he was constantly serving others. He was blessed with the opportunity to serve in many church callings.
Services will be at 11am on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at the LDS Stake Center in McCammon, Idaho with Bishop Weston Whitworth officiating. A viewing will be held at 10am prior to services. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
