Pocatello-Wayne (Happy) Elmer Newbold 77 peacefully passed away from an extended Illness in the early hours of September 15, 2021, surrounded by family.

Wayne was born to Elmer Whitaker and Bessie Ada (Ware) Newbold on March 7th, 1944, in Malad Idaho. He lived the first part of his life in Downey Idaho then had to leave behind the country life that he loved, moving to Pocatello where he attended junior and senior high school, graduating from Pocatello High School 1963. Wayne Served in the Army where he was honorably discharged in 1971. That same year he married his lifelong partner and the love of his life Carol (Moore) Newbold. He lived out the rest of his life in Pocatello where he and Carol raised 2 children.

Wayne worked in several industries including Zweigarts Meat packing plant processing meat, he then earned his journeyman glazier certification while working for Ostler’s/Jones Paint and Glass, when they closed, he earned his welding certification and worked for Union Pacific Fruit Express. After having to leave there do to physical disabilities, he worked what we believe was his favorite job of all, working part time for Sportsman’s Warehouse in the fishing department where he could talk all day about the loves of his life, hunting, fishing, and horses.

Wayne’s Mother passed when he was just 7 years old.  He was also preceded in death by his father, his baby sister Brenda Sue, his older sister Darla Jean.  Both sets of grandparents, his Mother-in-law Donna, a nephew- Bert and his brother from another mother, Kirk Pool also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his Wife Carol, Son Troy Newbold (Boise), Daughter Tina (Shannon) Steffens (Pocatello), Grandchildren Ashley (Chris) Critser, Joshua Steffens, Camden (Morgan) Newbold, Nathan (Alisha) Steffens and Brandon (Alexis) Steffens, Great grandchildren Jack, Hunter, Landen, Amiera, Hank & soon to be Brody. Extended surviving family includes Nieces Vicki. Penny, Cindy, Trena, Teresa and Sandra. Nephews Bob and Faron, Sister-in-law Kathy (Hyrum) Cluff and Brother-in-law Curtis Moore.

There will be a Viewing from 10-11:00 AM at The Rock Church 740 W. Center on Monday September 20th with a celebration of life immediately after. Wayne will be laid to rest in the Downey City Cemetery with a Potluck luncheon upon returning to Pocatello at the Rock Church.
