Pocatello - Wayne Douglas Fields, 85, of Pocatello, passed away Sunday evening May 3, 2009 at a local care facility.
Wayne was born October 21, 1923 in Rudyard, Montana to Leon and Rose Schnible Fields.
After graduating from Rudyard High School, Wayne joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge from the Navy, Wayne went to work for the Great Northern Railroad in Montana for 20 years. He relocated to Pocatello, where he met and married LaDonna Zieman Ost. He worked for Bucyrus Erie until his retirement in about 1984. Wayne was an avid fisherman and was able to pursue his dream (being paid to fish) as a fishing guide for the Grand Teton Lodge Company. He did guided tours on Jackson Lake and called it a paid vacation.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife LaDonna Fields, Pocatello; 2 daughters, Becky Reno and granddaughters, Hannah and Abby Reno, Billings, MT.; Sharon Flynn. Great Falls, MT.; 5 stepchildren, Pam (Paul) Noetling, Park City, Utah; Jen'e (Dave) Peck, Idaho Falls, ID.; Lori (Val) Schultz, Camas, WA.; Jay (Dreama) Ost, Durham, N.C.; Cathy (Keith) Honas, Pocatello; and a special caring friend Patrick Kesler. 5 grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Vic Fields, his daughter, Debra Rocco, stepson, Brad Ost.
Memorial graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Section 10 West at Mountainview Cemetery with Father Enrique Terriquez of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. The family suggest in lieu of flowers that donations by made to the charity of their choice.
