Vernard D. Swartz

Passed away 26 Feb 2018 in Pocatello at the age of 87. Born 24 Aug 1930 in Trenton, Nebraska to Gilbert Clayton Swartz and Mabel Marvel Swartz (Wallen), and moved to Pocatello in 1935.
Vern worked at the East Center Street store of Zweigart’s Bannock Brand Meat company, until becoming a member of the US Air Force and serving 1950 - 1954 in the Korean War as Senior Aircraft Mechanic.
Upon return from Korea, ‘Swartzie’ returned to Bannock Brand, rising through multiple positions to provide many years tenure as the meat packing plant General Manager.
Vern Swartz later partnered with Ed Norby and Chris Christainsen to found the successful South East Idaho electrical contracting company Norby Electric, Inc., with the role of Chief Financial Manager.
He was elected to multiple terms as district chapter President of NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) while with NEI. Vern retired from the Bid Estimator / Planner position at Pocatello’s Economy Heating & Refrigeration company in 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirlie R. Swartz; son E. Dee Swartz (Brenda) of Gilbert AZ; daughter Sandra L. Swartz-Hunt of Inkom, ID; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Vern enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an accomplished trap shooter, but truly loved playing golf. He recorded 3 holes-in-one in his career – all on the same hole at American Falls GC. He was noted for a strong sense of honor, integrity, and a good-natured, mischievous sense of humor.
Visitation will be at Manning – Wheatley Funeral Chapel (510 N. 12th Ave) from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday 01 Mar 2018. The family requests memorial donations / donations in lieu of flowers to the Bannock County Humane Society.
