Our beloved wife, mother, and friend, Sherrill Stephenson Morris, passed away May 12, 2022, surrounded by those to whom she devoted her life. Sherrill was born in Council, Idaho on August 24, 1945, to Carvel B and Lois Smout Stephenson, the sixth of seven children. She spent her childhood in Boise, graduating from Borah High School in 1963, where she was in orchestra and a drum majorette. She received her bachelor’s degree in education and taught school for 20 years in a variety of positions, including 14 years as a middle school math teacher, blessing the lives of many students over the course of her career.
Sherrill met Wayne Morris at ISU on September 24, 1966, and they were married in the Idaho Falls temple August 18, 1967. She was his biggest cheerleader. They were blessed with six incredibly fortunate children and a niece - Shannon, Gretchen, Nicole, Philip, Nathan, Kristen, and Kera. She experienced much joy throughout her life, but also difficult trials. The hardest day of her life was September 30, 1986, when she received the phone call that Gretchen had been taken in a car accident at age 15. We rejoice that they are together again.
Sherrill loved sewing, reading, flowers, the color yellow, and evening walks. She spent her life loving and serving those around her, especially Dad, her kids, her 35 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She had a remarkable gift for making babies smile, (maybe because she fed them chocolate ice cream), and made everyone around her feel important. Sherrill loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived a faith-filled life, serving in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life, including many years as a temple worker, Stake Relief Society President, and as a missionary with Dad in the Germany Hamburg/Berlin Mission. Her devotion to serving those she loved has left an eternal impact.
Sherrill is preceded in death by her parents, Carvel and Lois; her siblings, Carvel (Anne), Marilyn, Dennis (Pauline), Milton (Beverly), and Shirley (Lloyd); daughter, Gretchen; and nephew, Kirk (Angie Hofheins). She is survived by her husband Wayne, her sister Faye (Bruce), and her children, Shannon Cannon (Doug), Nicole Wallace (Rob), Philip Morris (Diane), Nathan Morris (Monika), Kristen Whitworth (Weston), and niece Kera Lloyd (Ryan).
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the love and care extended to Sherrill over the course of her illness by many friends and neighbors. Special thanks to Kelsey, Patty, Shanda, Andrea, Cassie, and Dr. Warnock for taking care of our wife and mother.
A viewing for Sherrill will be held Sunday, May 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Manning Wheatley Funeral Home, 510 N 12th Ave, Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the McCammon Stake Center, 403 W 16th St, McCammon, Idaho, with a viewing at 10 a.m.
