Pocatello- Ross DuWayne "Duke" Henderson, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at a local care center. He was born January 13, 1927 in Downey, Idaho. He was the third child and only son of Ross and Ethel Smith Henderson. He grew up on the family farm in Robin, Idaho with his three sisters, Marie (Wheatley), Joyce (Watson) and Onetta (Howell).
He attended grades one through eight at the Robin Elementary School, then graduated from Arimo High School in 1945, where he was student body president and participated in football and basketball.
On June 24, 1945, he was drafted into military service. He served at Wheeler Air force Base in Hawaii and Fort Douglas, Utah.
On July 31, 1953, he married Marilyn Evans in Arimo, Idaho. They later divorced. On June 26, 1960, he married LaRaynne Hatch in Elko, Nevada. Together they raised two children, Shauna and Todd. LaRaynne passed away January 21, 1999.
DuWayne retired in March 1990. He was working with the Forest Service at the time. He had been a heavy equipment operator for years. He worked for Morrison/Knudson, Peter Kewitt and Bud Gailey. They lived in Washington, Oregon, and different parts of Idaho. He spent a summer in Alaska helping rebuild Fairbanks and Juneau after the big earthquake in 1964.
After finding each other again at the Fourth of July parade in Arimo, DuWayne and Marilyn were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 2000.
He loved to bowl and belonged to number of bowling leagues. He loved to hunt but fishing was his passion, especially when he had his boat. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
DuWayne is survived by his wife, Marilyn Henderson, Arimo, Idaho; daughter, Shauna (David) Landon, Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Viki Henderson, Pocatello; sisters, Marie Wheatley, Robin, Idaho; Onetta Howell, Portage, Utah; brother-in-law, Darrell Watson, Pocatello; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaRaynne, son, Todd Henderson, grandson, Eli Henderson; sister, Joyce Watson; brother-in-laws, Wayne Wheatley , Larry Howell. sister-in-law, Sherrell Hansen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Arimo Stake Center, Arimo, Idaho, with Bishop Randy Morris of the Arimo ward officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th and on Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the church in Arimo. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery, Pocatello, Idaho, with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
