Pocatello- Roger B. Humberger, 81, passed away, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Portneuf Medical Center. He was born July 30, 1928 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Loren (Tim) and Vivian Ewing Humberger.
Roger grew up in the New Sweden area west of Idaho Falls. He graduated from Shelley High School where he was very active in sports, he especially enjoyed boxing. He attended Harvard University where he studied chemistry. He graduated with an A.B., cum laude, he was within one credit of receiving his Ph.D when he returned to Idaho to care for his mother. Upon returning, he attended Idaho State University and received his M.S. degree. He studied several languages and was very fluent in Russian.
Roger worked for the J.R. Simplot Company for over 40 years and was highly respected. His biggest passion was his work and he continued to do so up until his death. He formed many special relationships with his co-workers who were more like an extended family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading.
He is survived by his cousin, Jerry Humberger, Salmon, Idaho, Jerry's children, Cindy and Sherry, his late cousins wife, Diane Humberger, of Twin Falls, Idaho and their children, Todd, Shawn, and Lori, his cousin, Donna Lee Anderson of Sequim, Washington and her daughter, Susan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Vivian Humberger and cousin, Gilbert Humberger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services. Graveside services will be at Fielding Memorial Park, 4602 S. Yellowstone in Idaho Falls at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Roger Humberger Memorial Fund at the Pocatello Simplot Credit Union, P.O. Box 912, Pocatello, Idaho 83201. The proceeds will go toward the Pocatello Community Fishing Pond. Funeral arrangement are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
