Robert Dean Vesser

Robert Dean Vesser, 90, of Chubbuck, Idaho, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, surrounded by his children. Bob was born on January 27, 1935, to John M. and Marion Vesser in Lewiston, Idaho.

After attending Pocatello High School, he joined the U.S. Army, where he studied Electronics at the U.S. Armed Forces Institute, Advanced Electronics at the U.S. Army Guided Missile School, and Radio Repair at the Army Signal School. He later continued his studies at the University of Washington and Idaho State University.

Professionally, Bob worked for many years as a broadcast engineer at various television stations. His first 20 years were spent on a one-week-on, one-week-off rotation, caring for transmission equipment on East Butte in the middle of the Arco Desert. He loved the solitude of the mountain, and took great joy in creating, modifying, and tinkering with radios and all things electronic. He also worked for Simplot in Conda, Idaho, and finished his career at FMC in Pocatello.

In 1962, Bob met his wife, Carolyn, at his friend Carl Jenson’s wedding — he was the best man, and she the maid of honor. They married and went on to raise four children: David, Helen, John, and Joe. Later in life, Bob joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to his wife in the Idaho Falls Temple. His relationship with God was the most important thing to him.

Bob retired in 1996 and spent his time with Carolyn and on his many hobbies — especially ham radio, under his call sign WB7AYS. He couldn’t pass up a good deal (his house is evidence of that), and he loved calling in to talk radio shows to share his opinions. Yellowstone National Park was his favorite place in the world, and he cherished any chance to visit. Above all, he valued time with family.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn, who has been waiting for him for nearly 15 years on the other side, along with his parents and many dear friends.

He is survived by his children, David, Helen, John, and Joe; his older brother Dale; his friend Bonnie; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho, on Tuesday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. Dress for the cold.

Sayings that come to mind when we think of him:  “No no no” | “Hey hey hey” | “Dammit” | “Amen”
