Pocatello - Rece Kington Sorensen, 90, passed away peacefully Monday, evening June 23, 2014, at a local assisted living center from causes incident to age. He had just attended his loving wife Aleen's funeral earlier in the day.

He was born July 21, 1923, in Robin, Idaho, a son of Hans and Margaret Kington Sorensen Jr. When he was young, his family moved to the Pocatello area and he attended schools in Tyhee and Pocatello. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II fighting in France, Belgium and Germany. On September 7, 1945, he married Aleen Wellard in Elko, Nevada. She passed away June 18, 2014.

Following the war and marriage, they settled in Tyhee, where he farmed and also worked for FMC as a Fireman/Boilerman for 26 years retiring in 1976. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, making clocks from Arizona Ironwood and traveling. He and Aleen would spend the winters in Arizona and a lot of time in Montana in the summer. He was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by 2 sons, Les (Mae) Sorensen, Inkom, Idaho; Rod (Mary) Sorensen, Chubbuck, Idaho; 2 daughters, Margo Ann Stuart, Chubbuck, Idaho; JoLynn Mahaffey, Chubbuck, Idaho; son-in-law Steven Knudsen, Pocatello, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Aleen, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, daughter Sidney Knudsen, granddaughter, great-grandson and granddaughter-in-law.

The Sorensen family would like to empress a special thank you to the staff, caregivers, doctors and nurses at Ridgewind Assisted Living for their tender loving care of our father and mother.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountainview Cemetery (Section 48 West) with President Greg Evans of the L.D.S. 53rd Branch officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
