Michael B. Meyers, age 69, passed away following an illness at the Idaho State Veterans Nursing Home in Pocatello, Idaho on November 6, 2015. He was born on September 4, 1946 in Oakland, California to Donna Ray (Griffith) and Roy Bernard Meyers.
After high school graduation, Michael went on to continue his education at a two year junior college. He served in the US Army during Vietnam, enlisting on September 28, 1966 and was honorably discharged on September 5, 1969. He worked for Rucker Company and also as a part time letter carrier for the US Postal Service.
He enjoyed building model air planes, fishing, hiking, overnight camping trips, water skiing and gardening. Most recently, Michael's passion was drinking Dr Pepper, eating Chinese food, pizza and ice cream. He loved animals, especially dogs and enjoyed his trip this last year to the State Fair. He loved it when children would come to the nursing home to visit him. He also like playing cards and watching movies. He loved the festivities of the holidays.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Roy and grandparents, John and Edna Griffith and Edward and Jennie Meyers. He is survived by an uncle, Joe Griffith. He will be dearly missed by the caring and compassionate staff at the Idaho State Veterans Home. He became part of their family as they have cared for Michael since 1992.
A viewing will be held in the chapel at the Idaho State Veterans Home, 1957 Alvin Ricken Dr from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday November 12, 2015.
Funeral services officiated by Chaplin Steve Yadon will follow at 11:00 am in the Veterans Home chapel. Military Rites will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens and will be offered by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
