On Sunday August 28, 2022, Michael “Mike” was called home to his awaiting Heavenly Father surrounded by his loved ones. He was so blessed in his final days to have his adoring wife, his 6 children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and Baby Beans all by his side.
Mike was born February 5, 1951, in Pocatello, Idaho to Donald and Zella Rane Hall. He grew up in Fort Hall near his grandparents that he had such a close bond with. He attended Highland High School in Pocatello but later attended Marsh Valley High School after the family relocated their home to Marsh Creek Road in McCammon.
In 1971, Mike married Jean Hubbard and with this union they were blessed with 2 sons, Chad Michael, and Scott Jason. They were later divorced. In 1994, he married Sue Torres and joined their families to include 3 daughters, Lita, Camille, Monica and another son, Richard.
In 2004, Mike and Sue were sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
He cherished and adored children, especially babies, but his most treasured thing in life was when he was blessed with becoming a Grandpa “Poppa” and even a Great grandpa. You could always find him on the floor with a baby on his chest, and both be sleeping.
Mike loved the cowboy life. He loved rodeos, breaking colts, roping, the mountains and trail rides, cowboy poetry and old country music. He had many jobs in his life but some of his favorite times were working on many racetracks taking care of the horses. He loved roundup on the Big Onion. When he wasn’t riding to gather or sort the cattle, he could be found in the Cow Camp helping prepare meals for the hungry cowboys and cowgirls. Mike was on the McCammon Rodeo Committee for several years as well as the Dodge Circuit Finals Rodeo Committee. He made all the rodeo Queens braided Tiaras where anyone could tell a cowgirl from the Wilderness Circuit by looking at their beautiful, braided tiaras.
He had so many artistic abilities to make leather work, braiding, anything with horsehair, working with horses and these talents also allowed him to travel to various states doing what he enjoyed most.
He loved to travel but he always found his way back to the valley that he loved so much. He got to have a forever home that was part of the family farm. Even when work took him to other places, he always returned “home.”
He was so proud to lay a foundation to their forever home in McCammon where he had the space to have his horses and be the retired cowboy he dreamed about. Mike lived a simple life and the cowboy way of being as laid back as the horse he was riding and the open space of country tranquility.
He leaves his loving wife, Susan; his children, Lita (James) Schaellling, Camille Torres, Chad (Tiffany) Hall, Scott (Melanie) Hall, Richard (Amy) Torres; Monica (Nicole) Torres; his loving siblings, Ken (Debra) Hall, Penny (Charlie) Bullock, Bradley Hall, and Pam (Brad) Nilson. He continues to watch over his 27 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Zella Hall.
Mike’s last wishes were to give his heartfelt “Thank You” to all our dear friends and neighbors who have come to help as his health declined. The love and admiration he was given meant so much to him that he could never express enough just how much it touched him and Sue. These were not only friends and neighbors, but they became family!
Personal thanks to the Idaho Kidney Center staff and doctors, Encompass Home Health who care for him through all his home visits, Enhabit Hospice for the special attention, love and understanding of his last days at home, Quinn Meadows staff for all the hands-on care and special attention through both his stays, especially the administration offices for the extra care for offering to drive him home. Primary Care Specialist for many years of care. Manning Wheatley Funeral Home for the compassion and delicate handling of our beloved Mike.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the McCammon LDS Stake Center, McCammon, Idaho. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to services at the church.
