Michael Douglas Jones, 50, of Pocatello, passed away January 6th, 2018
Born June 11th, 1967 in Port Angeles, Washington, to Johnny “J” Jones and Vonda Lillie Lemmon Jones. Mike died while doing what he loved, skiing, at Tamarack ski resort.
Mike and his family moved to Ucon, ID, after his father died when Mike was 2. His Mom married Dick Rowberry, who had 2 teenage sons, then had 4 more kids. He learned survival skills early, as he “fought” for food between 5 older brothers, 1 younger brother, and 4 younger sisters, and a lot of dogs!
Mike started skiing at age 8. That kept him busy during the winter months, and motorcycling with brothers, restoring a Ford pickup, and playing basketball with his buddy Ken Park, kept him busy in the summer. Mike was active in scouting, and earned the Eagle rank. He was also a Cedar Badge Red Beret staff.
Mike graduated from Bonneville High School in 1985. During his last summer before graduating, he spent the summer in Bullhead City, AZ, working with his brother Matt doing Jet Ski rentals. He not only learned to ride Jet Skis really well, but learned how to repair them, and modify them for speed. He went back to Arizona the next summer.
The next couple of winters, Mike worked at Grand Targhee ski hill as a ski technician alongside Ken Park. He then went to Reno, attended school at UNR, skied on their ski team in the winter, and worked at Reno Kawasaki in the summer. Mike ended up getting his brother Matt a motorcycle technician job with him. Eventually they quit that and they opened Jones Jet Skee, mostly doing JetSki repairs and performance. After doing that a couple of years, in 1994 their families in Idaho pulled them back, and they opened Jones Eastern Idaho Motorsports in Idaho Falls. Mike worked as the parts manager, while Matt was the mechanic.
Shortly after moving to IF, Mike met Dorinda Nalder, and they were married February 15, 1997. Mike became an instant dad to Dorinda’s three daughters. They lived in Ririe, then in Rigby. Mike made a difference in their lives by being a father that was there for them.
Mike always felt like he should expand his sales expertise to help other Motorsports dealers, and in 2002, he started work for Western Power Sports of Boise as a sales representative, and moved to Bend, Oregon. In 2011, Mike had the opportunity to get the sales rep job in Eastern Idaho, so Mike and Dorinda moved to Pocatello. Mike serviced dealers from Rexburg to Logan, many times with Dorinda alongside him. Mike helped these stores be successful. He could look at their accessory inventory and show them what to stock that he knew would sell.
Mike’s hobbies were skiing, motorcycling (on and off-road), snowbiking, fishing, hunting, camping with his wife Dorinda, and spending time with grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Dorinda Jones, three daughters, Kassandra (Jager) Legrander, Brinda Kessler, and Britney (Aaron) Fitzsimon, and nine grandchildren; his Mom, Vonda (Ron) Holland; six brothers: Rick (Jan) Rowberry, Russ (Peggy) Rowberry, David (Penny) Jones, Matt (Tawna) Jones, Darren (Ann Marie) Jones, and Randall (Silvia) Rowberry; four Sisters: Kim (Tracy) Hoth, Carrie Shipley, Kristy (Kevin) Martin, Jill (Jeff) Duncan.
He’s preceded in death by his two dads, Johnny Jones and Richard Rowberry.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Saturday Jan. 13, 2018 at the LDS Chapel in Milo, Idaho.
A viewing will be from 6-8pm Friday Jan. 12, 2018 at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel 510 N. 12th Ave. Burial will be in the Mount McCaleb Cemetery in Mackay, Idaho.
