Maurice Armstrong Toler

"Dad went Home to be with Mom!" Maurice Armstrong Toler, 94, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2015, at the home of his daughter in Holladay, Utah. He was born July 4, 1920, in a log house in Robin, Idaho, to Goldie Ann Armstrong and Lemuel Massie Toler. After graduating from Arimo High School and following a mission to the Northern States, he asked Helen Gunter to be a "farmer's wife" and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 10, 1942. They were blessed with two children, Ardean and Theron.

Shortly, after their marriage, Dad joined the Army Air Corp as World War II was raging across the globe. He served at auxiliary bases of Luke Field located at Gila Bend and Ajo, Arizona, where he repaired airplane radios. He was on the verge of being shipped overseas when the war ended. Dad returned home and farmed land in Robin, Idaho, which originally belonged to his Father, Grandfather, and Uncle. For many years, he and Mom managed a weekly egg route from McCammon through Pocatello. In addition to his high school education, he finished a correspondence course in diesel mechanics. When he retired from farming, he drove diesel trucks and owned his own truck for awhile. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints where he was active and had a strong testimony of its truthfulness. He held many positions including Sunday School Superintendent, ward clerk, and first counselor in the bishopric. In 1985-1986, he served with Mom in the Rochester New York Mission and later they served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.

For the past twenty plus years, Mom and Dad escaped the cold and snow of Idaho by spending the winters in St. George, Utah, where they made many new friends. They enjoyed travelling and using their time-share to visit numerous places of interest throughout the United States. Between travelling for pleasure and truck driving, Dad has been in every state of the union.

Maurice is survived by his children, Ardean T. Loertscher (Max) and Theron Maurice Toler (Ingrid), 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Ware Nelson; brothers-in-law, James Gunter, Robert Gunter (Pat), Marvin Gunter (Carole); sisters-in-law, Connie Olson, Joyce Jensen, and Peggy Gunter. He was preceded in death (by only 7 months) by his wife of 72 years, Helen G. Toler. His parents and sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Vera, and Lois, also preceded him.

A special thanks goes to the following people for their tender loving care: Dr. Gary Holland and the staff at Hospice for Utah, the staff at Life Touch Home Health, the staff at Salus Home Care, a special caregiver, Luseane Vite and Hospice volunteer, Drew Fuller. Funeral services will be Sat., Feb. 7, 2015 at 12 noon at the Arimo Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Arimo Stake Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sat. 1 hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Robin Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
