Marshall "Whitey" C. Harris

Marshall (Whitey) Cleave Harris passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was born in McCammon, Idaho on April 12, 1923, the youngest of six children of Joseph Memorial and Helen Esther Larsen Harris. He lived his entire 95+ years in McCammon where he attended school and excelled in football, track and basketball and participated in many community activities.

On September 2, 1942, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Ilene Davis, also of McCammon. Shortly afterward, he was inducted into the US Army and began a journey across much of the country to various military bases. Ilene joined in some locations, including Rome, Georgia where he was in the Army Air Cadet training program. In April, 1944 he was transferred to combat training, and by the end of the year, arrived along the Normandy Coast of France where he served until the War ended in May, 1945.

After the War, Whitey and Ilene settled in McCammon and raised their family. He began a successful career in the construction industry, eventually establishing Harris Construction Co. with his sons. His greatest joys were centered around his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, Ilene’s siblings and friends. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. He will be remembered for his beautiful singing voice, dedication to hard work, sense of humor, family gatherings, positive attitude, love of the scenic mountains surrounding his home, and his joy of travel and long drives around the local countryside.

He is survived by his five children, Deanna Stookey, Salt Lake; Steven Harris (Marilyn), Highland UT; Marsha Lamprecht, Salt Lake; Scott Harris (Barbie), Pocatello; Natalie Hill (Doug), Pocatello; 16 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Ilene, his eternal companion of 65 years; two grandchildren, Alissa Stookey and Dexter Hill; all of his siblings and all of Ilene’s siblings.

We would like to thank all those at Friends and Family Home Care who helped keep Dad in his home until last November and to the staffs at Quinn Meadows and Heritage Hospice for their dedicated care in his last three months. Also, a special thanks to dear family members and friends who graciously shared their time and efforts on Dad’s behalf.
