Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend Marjorie Pilar Armstrong passed away August 11, 2016 in Preston, Idaho, returning to the awaiting and anxious arms of her beloved DeLoy.
She was born in Nampa, Idaho on September 22, 1932, the 13th child of David Earl and Martha Loretta Holladay. She grew up in the Canyon County, Idaho area.
One night while skating at the Melba, Idaho roller-skate rink, Marge asked her sister Dixie, “Who is that man over there?” Her sister answered, “That is DeLoy Armstrong who just returned home from the Navy.” Marge replied, “Well that’s the man I am going to marry.” So on the 16th of November, 1948, DeLoy and Marge were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised 9 beautiful children, Marcia Kay (Dennis) McGuire of Coalville, WA, Larry DeLoy (Gloria) Armstrong of Roseville, CA, Patricia Anne (Richard) Wheatley of Pocatello, ID, Sandra Lynn (Wayne) Hoover of Meridian, ID, Barbara Jean (Mike) Hammond of Logan, UT, David William Armstrong of Eagle, ID, Martha Joann (Russell) Palmer of Preston, ID, Pamela Sue (Richard) Stuart of Kaysville, UT, Katrina Marie (Steve) Elliott, Blackfoot, ID.
Marge and DeLoy lived in many homes in Melba, Idaho; Grants Pass, Oregon; Nampa, Idaho; Inkom, Idaho; Blackfoot Idaho, and finally in Preston, Idaho.
Marjorie was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. She served in many capacities in the church. Her first priority was her family whom she loved dearly. She was known for her bread making skill, smiles and kindness to whomever she met. She loved music, visiting, reading, and solving the end of the movie. Mother loved people, and her example of Christ-like love was felt by all. Her smile, hugs and kisses will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, 39 grandchildren, and 79 great-grandchildren. One brother, Glen (Joy) Holladay, 3 sisters, Dixie Winston, Ruby Johnson, and Pearl (Johnny) Noble. She is preceded in death by the love of her life DeLoy, her parents, 5 brothers, Parnell, Lamar, Joe, Vernal, and John D. 4 sisters, Lillie, Vidella, Verna, and Donna Jean.
As mother passed through the veil, we felt the excitement of dad yelling, “Yippee”.
We would like to thank Access and Heritage Home staff for their tender, loving care.
