Pocatello - Marguerite Jones Satterfield, 89, longtime resident of Pocatello and wife of the late Homer S. Satterfield, passed away on June 3, 2008 at a local care center.
Marguerite was born on April 20, 1919 in Burley, Idaho a daughter of James Lester and Rhea Jane Gorringe Jones. When she was one year old her family moved to Pocatello, where she attended elementary school at Roosevelt Elementary and then her family moved to Onyx (South of Inkom) where she attended middle grades in a two room school house. She then attended High School in McCammon where she graduated. While attending McCammon High School she excelled in sprint track and field. In 1936 she was choosen to try out at the Olympic Trials being held in Providence, R.I. for the 1936 Olympic games and won a bronze medal. She was also a recipient of the Balfore Medal, awarded to those active in extracurricular school activities who graduated in the top 10 percent of the their class. She also attended Henniger Business School in Salt Lake City. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1941 she married Homer S. Satterfield in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple. Homer passed away October 13, 2007.
Marguerite, a mother of six children, had been a conscientious homemaker all of her life. She had served in many organizations in the L.D.S. Church, including Relief Society, Primary and as Temple ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. She also served for three years as a mission mother of the North-Central States Mission in Minneapolis, MN..
She enjoyed cooking and trying new dishes. She was an avid reader and was always learning. She was also very active in preparing natural, healthy and nutritious foods for her family.
Survivors include: four sons, Douglas S. Satterfield, Orem, Utah; Steven H. (Anita) Satterfield, Pocatello, Idaho; B. Scott (Dana) Satterfield, Sandy, Utah; Bruce K. (Carol) Satterfield, Iona, Idaho; two daughters, Linda L. Bearup and Margo J. Satterfield, both of Pocatello, Idaho; two sisters, Norma Lou Noble, Rogue River, Oregon; Carolyn Harris, Chubbuck, Idaho. 27 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 3 sisters, Cleo, Amy, Melba and a brother James Lester Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at the Meadow Brook Ward L.D.S. Chapel (300 E. Chapel St,) with Bishop Remy Remington officiating. Interment will be in Mountainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 9, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Creekside Home Health & Hospice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
