Lyla Harris Epperson

Portland, Oregon - Lyla Gene Harris Epperson, 62, former resident of McCammon and Arimo passed away early Thursday May 5, 2011 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born June 2, 1948 in Pocatello, Idaho, a daughter of Reed and Evelyn Faye Wengreen Harris. She attended schools in Arimo and McCammon and graduated from Marsh Valley High School. She then attended BYU in Provo, Utah, where she met Eric Epperson. They were married August 21, 1969 in Columbia, South Carolina. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Lyla worked at a bank to help put Eric through BYU and then law school.

After moving to Portland, Oregon (where Eric was from), she obtained her Real Estate license as well as her Brokers license. Over the next several years, she and Eric enjoyed purchasing older large homes in the Portland Heights area and restoring them as close as she could to their original state. They would live in them for a few years and then find another one and do the same thing. She greatly enjoyed doing this as well as serving her friends in the Real Estate business.

She enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her family. She loved spending time landscaping her yard with shrubs and flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time at their coast beach house in Gearhart, Oregon. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church where she enjoyed serving as Relief Society President, Young Women's President, visiting teacher and teacher in Young Women's. She had also served as the Emergency Preparedness Specialist in her ward. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Epperson, Portland, Oregon; a daughter, Marcie Epperson (Curt) Lake, Boise, Idaho; her mother, Evelyn Faye Wengreen Harris, Chubbuck, Idaho; two brothers, Darryl Wayne (Christine) Harris, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Alan Reed Harris, Highland, Utah; She was preceded in death by her father, Reed I. Harris; a sister, Janet Renae Harris Thatcher.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 12 Noon at the McCammon L.D.S. Stake Center with Bishop Ivan Bullock, of the McCammon Ward, officiating.
