Leota Sorensen Dahlstrom

Pocatello - Leota Sorensen Dahlstrom, long time resident of Pocatello, ID passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband and two living daughters on Monday, July 2, 2012.

She was 90 years young and often commented that she was a "unique antique". She was born in Rupert, Idaho on March 26, 1922 to Chauncey Christian Sorensen, Liberty, ID and Cora Mae Hyde, Auburn, WY.

She married her childhood sweetheart on July 30, 1940 in the Logan temple. Leota is survived by her husband of 71 years, Hubert Dahlstrom; her children, Gary (Elaine) Dahlstrom, LoRene (Paul) Sorensen, Grant (Luci) Dahlstrom and Luann (Ron) Andrews; also 23 grandchildren, 60 great grand children and 15 great great grand children. Two of her children preceded her in death; Mark Dahlstrom & Coralee Worthen.

She held various positions in the L.D.S. Church. Because of her passion for her own genealogy (she filled several books of remembrance) and served with enthusiasm at the extraction center. She also taught the Bee Hives and Mia Maids. Not only did she help those young women obtain all 90 of their honor badges she also earned all 90 for herself. She loved attending youth firesides with her children and was a regular at Gold and Green Balls. She hungered and thirsted to know more about the gospel; therefore she frequently attended the "Know Your Religion" lecture series. It was not uncommon to see her marking her scriptures. As a commitment to her mother she regularly went with her to the temples in various surrounding cities.

She drove the special ed school bus for school district 25 for several years and loved the association of the special needs children and their families.

She was very creative and loved to knit and crochet, designing her own patterns. She enjoyed sewing, drawing and poetry. She even sang songs to her children that her mother had sang to her.

She and her husband were members of a local square dance club and both enjoyed in and out of town dances.

Mom never shirked her duty on anything and she taught her children and others to do the same. For years she worked during the potato harvest season picking and sorting spuds. She even helped dig the footings foundation for the addition onto her kitchen.

Mom was a "hugger", loving to give and get them.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 7, 11 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel 510 N. 12th Ave. Graveside service will immediately follow at RestLawn Memorial Gardens.
