Leo Ralph Gilbert

Pocatello - Leo Ralph Gilbert, 91, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at an assisted living center in Pocatello, from causes incident to age.

He was born October 21, 1916, in Leslie, Idaho, a son of James and Martha Dent Gilbert. He attended schools in Leslie and worked on the family farm. He then worked for the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the depression in the 1930's in the Salmon, Idaho area where he met his wife.

On November 13, 1937, he married Bernice Adele Road in Salmon, Idaho. She passed away January 2, 1989. They lived in Oakley, Idaho for a time and then moved to Ely, Nevada where he worked in the mines. They moved to Pocatello in 1943. Leo worked as a heavy equipment operator for several construction firms in the area and last worked for Goodwin Construction of Blackfoot. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. He liked to hunt, fish and was a rock hound. He also made jewelry with many of the rocks he collected.

Survivors include: a son, James (Gwen) Gilbert, Chubbuck, Idaho; a daughter, Adele Davis, Pocatello, Idaho. 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice; a son, Norman Gilbert; daughter, Patricia Taysom Beasley; son-in-law, James Davis; grandson, Shawn Gilbert, 5 brothers and 7 sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
