Lena A. Sexton
Inkom - Lena Anken Sexton, Columnist and Photographer, died peacefully in her sleep August 3rd, 2008. She was born May 3rd, 1918 in Pocatello and lived in the Pocatello / Inkom area most of her life. She moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1985, after first traveling the Alaska Highway in 1949.
Lena moved back to Inkom in 1998. While in Alaska Lena worked for the Private Industry Council and as an Older Worker Specialist for the Northstar Borough and represented the older workers of Alaska in Washington DC on numerous occasions. Lena was named Alaska's Outstanding Older Worker and was honored on March 12, 1998 in Washington DC, and on May 21st in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Lena was proud of talking to Statesmen, Governors, Congressmen, and well known businessmen in her quest for stories. Lena was in the middle of researching and writing another article when she went to bed Saturday night. She published stories and photographs in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner, The Senior Voice, The Idaho State Journal, Yesteryears, Lady's Home Journal, Ford Times, Farm Times, Idaho Magazine, Mother Earth News, and the Caribou Sun. She has articles displayed in the Ashton Museum.
Morris Sexton, whom she married on July 17th, 1946, died in April, 1994.
She will be missed by her sons, Robin and Scott, her family Susie, Skip, Chris, Taj, Kirk, Kelly, Jason, Richie, Eska, Stephen, Mariah, Melissa, Kylie, Tess, Aislynn, and countless friends.
A memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 8th at the LDS Chapel in Inkom. Arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. Online condolences may be sent to the Sexton family at www.manningwheatleyfuneralchapel.com.
