Pocatello- Lawrence "Bud" Cecil Mecham, 70, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2010 with his family at his side.

He was born on June 24th, 1940 in Blackfoot, Idaho, in the home of his parents, Lowell James and Nettie Marie Nelson Mecham. Bud is survived by his wife, Carol Sue, and his eight children, Doylean Shinners, Tona & Leslie Pettengill, Nedra Mecham, Todd Mecham, Tracy Mecham, Christie and Wm. Max Crook, Vanessa and Chris Barnes, and Kevin Mecham, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bud moved to Pocatello in 1942 with his parents where they bought a house on Hoffman in 1943. He graduated from Pocatello High school in 1959 and continued to work with his parents at the Arctic Circle drive in on South 5th until leaving for BYU. He was married in 1960 and later divorced, during this time he enjoyed the births of Doylean, Tona, Nedra, Todd, and Tracy. He also started working for Old Faithful Beverage and later for Anderson Lumber. In 1969 he accompanied his father for a test for a post office position and he started working at the Pocatello Post Office. In 1978 he was married to Sue, and Christie was born. In 1985 he was promoted to Postmaster in Challis, Idaho where Vanessa and Kevin were born. He was an officer in NAPUS, a Postmaster organization, serving 2 years as president. He retired in 1999 after 30 years. Since retirement he has enjoyed fishing and entering sweepstakes, which resulted in traveling the world and meeting famous people such as Joe DiMaggio, Emeril Lagasse, Joe Frasier, A.C. Green, and Laurence Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. North Stake Center (Whitaker Road) with Bishop Mike Jones of the Whitaker First Ward officiating. The family will recieve friends on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Funeral services will also be held Friday, Aug 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Challis L.D.S. Chapel in Challis, Idaho with Bishop Derris Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

A small memorial headstone will be placed at Basalt Cemetery near his parents. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Challis Tea Party Scholarship Fund, PO Box 104, Challis, ID 83226. Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
