Larry Lee Howell

Portage, Utah - Larry Lee Howell, 72, lifelong resident of Portage, Utah and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday morning November 8, 2007 at Mackay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah following an extended illness.

He was born January 26, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah a son of Alva and Carman Rose Baird Howell. He attended elementery school in Portage, Utah and then graduated from Bear River High School in Garland, Utah. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. On December 27, 1962 he married Onetta Henderson Williams in Portage, Utah. Their marriage was later solomnized in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. Larry worked for the Box Elder County School District for 42 years in the bus transportation department retiring as supervisor. He served as mayor of Portage for several terms and was currently mayor at the time his death. He also served on the Bear River Hospital Board and on the board of the Bear River Association of Governments (BRAG).

He was active in the L.D.S. Church having served as Bishop, high counselor, sunday school teacher, scout leader, Elders Quorum President and Ward missionary.

He and his wife Onetta served a mission to London England from 2000 to 2002. He liked traveling and discussing politics. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include: his wife Onetta H. Howell, Portage, Utah; 3 sons, Timothy (Cindy) Williams, Kemmerer, Wyoming; Ronald Williams, Tremonton, Utah; Larry L. (Peggy) Howell, Orem, Utah; 3 daughters, Venna Lee (Bret) Flint, Portage, Utah; Victoria (Ron) Anderson, Snowville, Utah; Yvonne H. Thompson, Brigham City, Utah; a brother, Alva Paul (Beverly) Howell, Nibley, Utah; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Jacqueline and 2 brothers Cecil and Robert.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage, Utah First Ward with Bishop Keith Wadman, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening November 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Portage L.D.S. Chapel and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Portage City Cemetery with military rites provided by the Box Elder County Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
