Lava Hot Springs - Leonard Dean Ware, 78, passed away Monday, February 13th, 2012, at Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Dean was born November 20th, 1933 in Lava Hot Springs to Leonard John Ware and Effie Coffin Ware. He was the oldest of four siblings. He attended Lava Elementary and graduated from Lava High School. This was the last graduating class of Lava High School.
On April 22nd, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart , Beverly Ann Toler in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple.
Dean attended ISU Vo-Tech in Welding. He worked for the railroad as a welder. In 1954 joined the United States Air Force, and served during the Korean conflict as an instrumentation technician. He was a staff sergeant at the time of his honorary discharge.
Dean went to work for his father at the Lava Service until his father's death. He purchased the business from his mother; and continued to run the service station until 1979. In 1979, he went to work for Marsh Valley High School District 21. He worked as Transportation Supervisor and Auto Mechanics Teacher until his retirement in 2003.
Dean served on the Lava City council and as the Mayor of Lava Hot Springs. Dean was an active member of the LDS Church and served 23 years as a counselor to three different Bishops. He also served as Bishop and High Councilman. He served in the Young Men's Organization and Scouting Program.
Dean loved to serve people; loved serving his country, community and family. He greatly loved his family. We feel the void and will greatly miss him!
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, David Williams and daughter-in-law Khamboth Ware, granddaughter Elizabeth Harris and grandson Michael Shawn Galloway. He is survived by his wife, Beverly ,Lava Hot Springs; seven children: Lionel (Nalene) Ware, Arimo; Valorie (Jon) Harris, McCammon; Raymond (Renda) Ware, Twin Falls; Karlene (Brad) Hall, McCammon; Leonard (Michelle) Ware, Korea; Effie (Dale) Kinloch, McCammon; and Kathy Cook, Lava Hot Springs. three sisters: Margene (Clarence) Wilson, Downey; Marilynn (James) Yearsley, Pocatello; Dianne (Roland) Anderson, Grace. 36 grand children, 53 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20th, 2012, at 12 Noon at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Chapel, with Michael Waite, first counselor officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lava Hot Springs Ward Chapel and on Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery with military rites provided by the Lava Hot Springs American Legion Post 88and the Idaho Honor Guard.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 n. 12th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho.
