Pocatello- Ken Harris died at home surrounded by his family, in Pocatello, Idaho on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, after a long struggle with cancer.
He was born on February 19, 1939, in Pocatello, Idaho at St. Anthony Hospital to Mary and Lionel Harris. After attending grade school in Pocatello, his family moved to the Michaud area. Ken graduated from American Falls High School in 1957. After graduation, Ken moved back to Pocatello and worked in the service department at Intermountain Chevrolet.
Ken met Jean Coon while attending high school, and they later married, on September 10, 1960.
In 1967, Ken was offered the service manger job at Stoddard Mead Ford in Idaho Falls. This was a memorable time for Ken and Jean. Ken was honored with awards and trips for his work as a service manager. During Ken's 15 years of service, they enjoyed traveling and raising a family. They moved back to Pocatello when Ken purchased Memorial Art and Vault in 1982. He retired in 1998 after selling his business. Since Jean was still working, Ken decided to take a position as custodian at Gate City Elementary. Every morning he slipped on his backpack and walked to school. This turned out to be his most enjoyable employment. Later, he and Jean retired together in 2005. Dirt bike riding with buddies, his son, Robb, and grandchildren was a highlight. He took pride in caring for his yard, gardening, painting, and other household duties that his wife enforced!
Ken is survived by: his wife Jean; his daughter, Wendy (Brian) Deffinger; his son, Robb (Krista) Harris; six grandchildren; sister, Karen (Lynn) Hunter; brother, Cliff Harris. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Kirk (Katie) Harris; his sister, Carol (Harvey) Coffman; his sister-in-law, Jean (Cliff) Harris.
