Chubbuck - Kay Hansen, 82, longtime area resident and banker passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 22, 2010. He was born June 30, 1927 in Midvale, Utah, a son of William and Vera Allred Hansen.
When he was very young, his family moved to Pocatello where he attended schools and graduated from Pocatello High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
On August 16, 1948, he married Edna "Honey" Rytting in Pocatello. He then attended Grimm's Business College in Pocatello and later graduated from the Pacific Coast School of Banking in Seattle. He had a very successful banking career with First Security Bank as Senior Vice President in the credit department. He lived in several communities in Southeastern Idaho during his banking career. He retired from First Security Bank in 1984 after 24 years.
He was active and served in many service organizations in each community where he lived. He served in the Pocatello and American Falls Rotary Clubs, Rexburg Lions Club, Pocatello Kiwanis Club, American Falls Chamber of Commerce, member of the Power County Fair Board, He also played and coached American Legion Baseball and was the United Way Fund Raiser Representative.
He was an avid bowler, golfer, reader, master card player and expert board gamer (Col. Mustard). He was a history buff, always on top of everything current going on in the world. Daddy was everyone life line, always the center of family activities. Daddy was also the biggest kid on the block. He loved those "Damn Yankees" but most of all he loved his family. Survivors include his sweetheart of 61 years, Edna R."Honey" Hansen, Chubbuck, Idaho; a son, Kerry Dale (Jill D.) Hansen, Manti, Utah; 2 daughters, Deborah Kay Blackburn, Boise, Idaho; Kathryn Jo Wright, American Falls, Idaho; a brother, Edward "Teddy" Hansen, California; a sister Mary Winters, Chubbuck, Idaho. 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Hansen Jr., a sister, LaPriel Curtis.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sutton Cemetery in Archer, Idaho with military rites performed by the Madison County Veterans Group. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave..
