Pocatello- Jose Ma Mejia, 81, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at a local care center following an illness.

He was born September 30, 1929, in Santa Ana Pacueco GTO., Mexico, the son of Marcial and Matilde Vazquez Mejia. He married Elena Aguirre on May 21, 1949 in Santa Ana GTO. Mexico. When he lived in Mexico, he owned a grocery store and he help a lot of families in need he was loved by everyone in the community.

He was a very active man. He loved to play soccer, go fishing and enjoyed gardening. He was an excellent cook. He loved to have all his family together. Jose loved to tell his life long stories to his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Jose's family is his wife, Elena Aguirre Mejia; 3 sons, Marcial Mejia; Jose Angel Mejia married to Carmen Posas; Arturo Mejia married to Dolores Ramirez; 8 daughters, Marta Mejia married to Trino Elizarraraz; Guadalupe Mejia married to Jose Pena; Matilde Mejia married to Gerardo Hernandez; Dolores Mejia married to Jabier Guerrero; Norma Mejia married to Rafael Cadena; Rosio Mejia married to Manuel Torres; Luz Elena Mejia married to Gerardo Cadena; Mirella Mejia married to Jose Torres; 2 brothers, Benito Mejia; Jose Mejia; 3 sisters, Francisca Mejia; Isidra Mejia; Guadalupe Mejia; 25 grandsons; 9 granddaughters; 32 great grandchildren;

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Benito Mejia; Jose Mejia; 1 sister, Francisca Mejia; son-in-law, Trino Elizarraraz; Rafael Cadena; grandson, Gerardo Hernandez Mejia.

Vigil services will be held Sunday evening May 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. The family will receive friends following services Sunday evening until 9:00 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held on Monday May 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church (439 N. Hayes Ave.) with Father John Wroster, Celebrate. Additional services and interment will be in Guadalajara, Mexico. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
