John Anson Van Wart

Pocatello - John Anson Van Wart, 58, of Pocatello, our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Pocatello Care and Rehab Center just three weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

He was born July 24, 1951 at the Santa Margarita Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, California a son of John Henry and Betty Royce Lane Van Wart. His family moved to Texas when he was young where he attended schools and graduated from Garland High School in Garland, Texas. He went on to college and received his BS Degree from Brigham Young University in Law Enforcement.

On November 7, 1987, he married Esther Martin in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Dallas, Texas L.D.S. Temple, where they were also sealed together with her six children. He moved to Pocatello from Arkansas with his family in 1992. He was very active in The Boy Scouts of America and received his Eagle Scout Award. He also participated in The Order of The Arrow, Arrow of Light, Wood Badge Training and Yellowstone Loons. He was active in the L.D.S. Church and was serving as Young Men's President at the time of his passing. He had also served in the Elders Quorum Presidency and as a home teacher. After moving to Pocatello, he received his Masters Degree in Business MBA from Idaho State University. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a marksman with the rifle. His greatest passions were his family and fly fishing which he did as much as time would allow. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He is survived by his parents John and Betty Van Wart, Red Oak, Texas; his wife, Esther Van Wart, Pocatello, Idaho; sons, Jesse (Nicole) Van Wart, Isaac (Hailey) Van Wart, Nathan (Leslie) Van Wart, all of Pocatello, Idaho; Michael Miller, Dallas, Texas; daughters, Anna Miller, Dallas, Texas; Heather (Joe Ray) Robinson, Nampa, Idaho; April (Paul) Paxton, S. Jordan, Utah; Sarah (Colton) Skeem, Pocatello, Idaho; Juliann (Jeremy) Christensen, Pocatello, Idaho; Caitlin Van Wart, Pocatello, Idaho; a brother, Thomas (Barbara) Van Wart, Burleson, Texas; sisters, Lengel (David) Anderson, Heber, Utah; Patricia Van Wart, Nadeanne (Lester) Taylor, Ramona (David) Duke, Ruth (Mel) Greenlee all of Waxahachie, Texas. 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathan Xavier Van Wart and still-born brother Charles Van Wart.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Highland L.D.S. 7th Ward (2000 S. Fairway Dr.) with Bishop Michael Summers officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. John's family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Portneuf Medical Center and Pocatello Care & Rehab Center for their loving care extended to our husband, father, son, & brother, especially Thelma & Louise.
