John Thomas Davis

Pocatello - John Thomas Davis, 58, of Pocatello, passed away Monday, afternoon July 12, 2010 near Inkom, Idaho from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born October 12, 1951 in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Dr. John R. Davis DMD and Blanche Ockey Davis. He was the first baby born in Bannock Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1969. He then attended Ricks College where he received his Associates Degree and his pilots license. On May 20, 1978 he married Cheryl Sumida in Pocatello. They were later divorced.

As a youth he received the Alonzo Stagg Endurance Award. He loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed skiing and fishing. John was a kind, thoughtful and quiet man. He was very loving with a child-like spirit. He was known by his loved ones as "Johnny" and had a genuine love for children and animals. His heart was as big as the great outdoors which was where he loved to be. John lived in Seattle in his youth while his father attended graduate school and later lived in Boise and Portland before returning to Pocatello. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving parents, Dr. John R. and Blanche Davis, Pocatello, Idaho; 2 sons, Ryan Davis, Seattle, WA; Kyle Davis, Boise, Idaho; 2 brothers, Daniel J. (Sherrie) Davis, Pocatello, Idaho; Steven M. (Michelle) Davis, West Jordan, Utah; 5 sisters, Allyn J. (Scott) Smith, Pocatello, Idaho; Suzanne Davis, Salt Lake City, Utah; Julie Anne (Eric) Hattabaugh, Bountiful, Utah; Elizabeth Davis Evans, Ogden, Utah; Polly K. (Farrell) Wheatley, Jerome, Idaho; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. East Stake Center (42 Princeton) with Bishop James E. Ralphs of the Princeton Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Nephi, Utah City Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends this evening Thursday, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the Davis family suggests donations be made to the L.D.S. Church Perpetual Education Fund.
