Pocatello - John Louis Coray, 83, longtime resident and businessman of Pocatello, passed away Thursday evening June 9, 2011.
He was born January 31, 1928 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Clarence Allred and Hazel Lavina Cardon Coray. He attended schools in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Upon his return from the Army, he married Betty Murdock on September 1, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Betty passed away November 5, 1999.
John graduated from BYU with a Masters Degree in music and a minor in Italian. He and Betty moved to Pocatello where he was owner of Air-Alum Door and Windows Inc. He operated the business until retiring in January 2007. He was active in community music events and taught the opera work shop at ISU.
He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including Bishop of the Twenty Second Ward.
He enjoyed family activities, including camping, boating and pheasant hunting. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by 2 sons, John Brent (Debbie) Coray, Pocatello, Idaho; Robert Louis (Julie) Coray, Rexburg, Idaho; 3 daughters, Kathy Coray (Gary) Murphy, Chubbuck, Idaho; Christine Coray, Chubbuck, Idaho; Colleen Coray Brown, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a sister, Marilyn Coray Browne, Ogden, Utah; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Sharon Coray Swenson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar L.D.S. Chapel (550 W. Cedar) with Bishop Rod Johnson, of the Cedar Second Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
