John "Jack" Bybee Bowen, 87, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014.
He was born November 8, 1926, the son of Henry Chalender and Jennie Deseret Bybee Bowen in Downey, Idaho. He attended schools in Downey, Idaho. In 1944, he was taken our of high school and was drafted into the Navy. John was discharged in 1945. He attended AG College in Logan, Utah. His love of animals was always a factor in his life.
In 1947, his father bought Downey State Bank and called John and Ben home to help run the bank. This began 40 years of a family owned business, where many life long friendships began.
John married Marvel Snow in 1948. They had five children. They later divorces. In 1970, he married Emmagen (Jean) Osborne Betty. They were blessed with four more children.
John and Jean loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time at the cabin in Lava Hot springs, Idaho. After retirement, much time was spent riding horses and helping out friends and neighbors.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jean Bowen, Downey, Idaho; a son, Scott Bowen; step-sons, Lester (Shela) Betty; Dennis (Maria) Betty; daughters, Jackie Bowen; Harriet Bowen; Teresa Bowen; step-daughters, Jeanie Nisson; Kay Thomason; a brother, Ben Bowen; sister, Jean Lazusky; 27 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; He was preceded in death his parents; son, Brad Bowen; brothers, Bill Bowen, Max Bowen; sisters, Lou Steed, Laree Wise; grandson, Michael Stenger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Downey L.D.S. Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Cambridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marsh Valley Bible Church. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
