John Lester Bocek "Les"

John Lester Bocek (Les), 90, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024 at Grace Assistive living in Chubbuck Idaho. Les was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Les was born in Dayton Wyoming on December 03, 1933. He was one of six children born to Paul and Gladys (Blaksely) Bocek. On May 29, 1960 Les married Joan Nania and the two of them later adopted two children, a son Chris and a daughter Deb which completed their family. The couple spent the early years of their marriage moving around Wyoming and Colorado as Les’s job with AT&T relocated him to many installation projects. They ended up in Cheyenne Wyoming. Where he spent the rest of his carrier with AT&T as an Operations Manager. He retired in 1987 with a total of 35 years of service with AT&T. After retirement they moved to Lava to be closer to friends and family.

In retirement Les was known for his volunteerism, as he spent 37 years as a member of the Lava Lions club in a verity of positions. The Lava Lions club provided both entertainment as well as completed projects which benefitted both the Lava community as well as its visitors. If Les was not volunteering you could find him on the golf course enjoying a round of golf or fishing on Jackson Lake. He was always fishing for the allusive 35-pound Lake Trout. He loved spending time with his family fishing below Mt. Moran. Les was an avid outdoors man. His favorite indoor activity was watching the Denver Broncos or
the Denver Nuggets depending on the season. Les was an active member of The Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lava Hot springs.
Les was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Gladies. His brothers Al and Joe and sister Mary Hurt.

Les is survived by his wife Joan, son Chris (Judi) and daughter, Debbie Chilton (Brad). Grandchildren: Devin, Wyatt, Brodee Bocek and Brook Chilton. Sisters: Florance Berti (Sonny), Donna Vaughn andnumerus nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 132 S. 1^st E. Lava Hot Springs with a viewing one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will follow Mass at Lava Hot Springs Cemetery. Following the interment, there will be a reception for family and friends at the Lava Hot Springs Community Center, 98 N. Center St, Lava Hot Springs, at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lava Lions Club.
