Joel Evan Johnson

Joel Evan Johnson, age 65, passed away Friday evening, August 16th, 2024, at PMC in Pocatello, Idaho. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho in 1958 to Jack Nathan Johnson and Mary Lou (Burwell) Johnson and remained a lifelong resident. He spent his young adult life in the Air Force and took pride in the fact that he graduated from the vocational program at ISU. He spent most of his career as an iron worker and was part of the local union 732. He was an avid skier and lover of classic rock music. 

He was a loving father and grandfather and fiercely devoted to his family. In January of 1987, Patricia Lewis gave birth to his son, Jason and in November of 1990, his daughter Felicia. On July 29th, 1995, he married the love of his life, Tonia Otero. He raised her two children Derick and Erika as his own and in September of 1998, Tonia gave birth to their youngest child, SammiJo. In his retirement, he enjoyed walking his dogs Rocky and Thelma, puttering around the house, visiting his wife and daughters at work, and telling anyone who would listen how great his kids were. Those who knew Joel would say that he had the gift of the gab and the heart of a lion. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou and Jack, and his siblings, Sherlyn, Jack, and Kathleen. He is survived by his wife, Tonia; his children, Derick, Jason, Erika (Josh), Felicia, and SammiJo (Broc); his brother, James; his grandchildren, Cooper and Brooks;and his pets, Rocky, Thelma, Paul and Benjamin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 23rd, at Manning Wheatley Funeral Home, 510 N 12th Ave, Pocatello, ID. In tribute to Joel, the family is asking that you wear your concert tees to the funeral along with your Pit Vipers and Converse, if you have them. 

The family and friends are gathering at Caldwell Park pavilion for a pot-luck following services and burial.
