Jimmie L. Carlton
Pocatello - Jimmie Leroy Carlton, 84, of Pocatello, passed away early Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Idaho State Veterans Home following an extended illness.
He was born May 25, 1923 in Wendell, Idaho, a son of Jesse and Elsie Durfee Carlton. When he was a young boy, he moved to Vancouver, Washington and then to Emmett, Idaho, where he attended school. Before he finished high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was discharged following the war and then reenlisted and served for 20 years. On June 22, 1947, he married Harriet A. Reed in Superior, Montana. She passed away on June 12, 1989. Following his regular 20 years, he then served an additional 2 years as a Navy recruiter in Idaho Falls.
After his final retirement from the Navy, he began work with the Idaho State Police and received training from the Police Academy at Idaho State University. He began working at the Inkom Port of Entry in 1974 and retired in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his yard and garden. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include: a son, James (Cheri) Carlton, Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Linda (Steven) Payne, Arimo, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Donald and a brother Jerry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, and Saturday for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
