Jewell E. Horton Pocatello- Jewell Horton, 80, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 at Portneuf Medical Center. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel 510 N. 12th Ave.
Jewell "Jay" E. Horton was born October 7, 1927, to Jewell Smith Horton and Ruth Hunsaker Horton, in Honeyville, Utah. Jay joined the Army Air Corps near the end of World War II.
On December 24, 1948 he married Evelyn Ray Whitlow of Richmond, Virginia. Over the next few years Jay and Ray had three children. Ray and the children accompanied Jay to Austria, Germany, and various military posts in the United States. Jay became a member of the Army Counterintelligence Corps (CIC). Jay also became a german linguist. For almost thirty years Jay served his country whereever called upon to do so. This included a year in I Corps near the DMZ in South Viet Nam. Jay retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 and moved to Pocatello.
Jay worked for his brother Samual G. Horton, owner of a concrete construction business, for several years before permanently retiring. Jay liked to play chess, read, hunt, fish, snowmobile, and golf. Jay died on his birthday October 7, 2007, just a few short months after his brother.
