Pocatello - Jesse D. "Jack" Barger, 89, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away early Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at a local care center following an illness.

He was born June 5, 1919 in Treasureton, Idaho, a son of Thomas J. and Pearl Nelson Barger. He attended schools in Treasureton and graduated from Thatcher High School.

He moved to Pocatello in 1939 and hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 40 years retiring as a crew dispatcher in 1979.

On June 3, 1950 he married Anita Curtis in Pocatello and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later divorced. In March 1980, he married Dorothy Parkinson, in Elko, Nevada.

Jack was active in the L.D.S. Church and served as ward organist for many years. He served as financial clerk to five successive bishops and enjoyed attending the temple. He had a special gift for music and played the organ and piano at many functions in the area including, playing at nursing homes, the senior center, funerals, melodramas, the Old Time Fiddlers. He received a Volunteer of The Year award from Governor John V. Evans. He liked yardwork and always had a beautiful yard. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Survivors include: his wife Dorothy Barger, Pocatello, 2 sons, Duane D. (Denise) Barger, Hermiston, Oregon; Michael (Susan Green) Barger, Pocatello; 2 daughters, Alayne (Ernest) Chavez, Farmington, Utah; Janet (Stace) Duval, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 2 step-daughters, Judy (Jerry) Butler, Moses Lake, Washington; Joan (Marty) Mothershead, Meridian, Idaho; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Ward Chapel (550 W. Cedar) with Bishop Stuart Wray, Cedar 1st Ward officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Mountainview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel. Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel 510 N. 12th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201
