Jeffery Bruce Wilson, 55, of Pocatello died January 2, 2015 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born June 24, 1959 in Pocatello, Idaho to Ronald and Catherine Wilson.
Jeff attended Pocatello High School where he was active in track, wrestling, theater and performing with Gate City Singers. He was active in the United Methodist church, performing with the J.C. Express Choir and was a Boy Scout. He later attended Idaho State University where he studied music and completed the Automotive Technology Program.
Jeff met and married Darlene Parkin in 1982. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage. Jeff and Darlene shared their love of music writing and performing. They loved following little used trails to explore what was around the next corner. The last few years they enjoyed target shooting and watching NASCAR races.
Jeff loved camping as well as hunting, fishing and backpacking. In later years, he developed a passion for caving which in some cases included descending by rope into the cave. He was excited for any activity that involved his brothers Greg and Mike. Each winter he looked forward to ice fishing with his dad Ron.
Jeff always thought "outside the box." He sewed his own tents and backpacks: both human and dog variety. He could take a pile of junk and turn it into a dog sled or some other amazing creation. His friends often called him MacGyver.
Jeff also enjoyed sharing his passions with others. He loved to teach someone how to play guitar, repair car brakes, or climb a rope. He was generous with his time and talents, teaching Sunday school, confirmation classes, and served as a camp counselor and youth group leader. Children loved Jeff and he them.
Jeff is survived by his wife Darlene Wilson, parents Ronald and Catherine Wilson, brothers Michael R. Wilson and Greg (Donna) Wilson and his nieces and nephews. He leaves behind two spoiled German Shephards. He was preceded in death by grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Jeff's life will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N 15th, Pocatello, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made via the church to: Sawtooth United Methodist Camp multipurpose building or the Creation Vacation Camp held at Sawtooth Camp. To honor Jeff's passion for life, you are invited to dress casual and if you have one, wear your favorite Sawtooth Camp or NASCAR shirt.
During his struggle Jeff never lost faith in God. When remarked he was fighting a war against the cancer, Jeff smiled and said, "But I have the Champion on my side."
