James "Jim" K. Guthrie Sr.

James “Jim” Keith Guthrie Sr. passed away on Friday November 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family from a courageous battle of lung cancer. Jim was born on March 1, 1937 in Winnemucca, Nevada to Alvin and Lillian Guthrie. He spent his youth in Winnemucca, California, Soda Springs and Inkom.

Jim graduated from Inkom High School where he was active in sports. In 1954 he married Carol Ann Dunn. They were blessed with four children; Jim, Jolene, Scott and Doug. Jim served in the Armed Forces in the fifties and was honorably discharged after serving two years, which included a sixteen month tour in Germany. He worked for 30 years at the Inkom Cement Plant working as a welder, repairman, equipment operator and machinist. He also served as a union president or chief job steward and was heavily involved in the negotiations of labor contracts.

Jim has been involved in farming and agriculture since 1961, being active in many responsible range management and environmentally beneficial projects. The river bank restoration projects at his ranch in Inkom earned Jim an award for Idaho Grass Man of the year in 2003. Jim served as president of the Portneuf Cattleman's Association from 1985-1993. He was active for many years with the Inkom Cement Employees Credit Union as a board member and credit committee member. He served as Farm Bureau County president from 1999-2021.

Jim leaves behind his wife Carol, son Jim, daughter Jolene (Ron) Vaughan, son Doug (Shauna), 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a sister Helen (Jeffrey) McCabe. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alfred, his son Scott, a great- grandson Jace Johnson, cousins Chuck Thomson, and Norman Thomson. Jim was loved and respected by many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 6-8 pm at the Rapid Creek LDS church in Inkom. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:30 am-12:30 pm with a viewing prior from 10-11:15 at the same location. Graveside service immediately following at Norton Cemetery in McCammon with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard and the Idaho National Guard.
