Irvin Hone Scott

Pocatello-Irvin Hone Scott, 88, passed away at his home Wednesday June 30, 2010. He was born March 22, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Newell E. and Vira Hone Scott.

During his early childhood and elementary years the family moved often. By late elementary, they were living in Jamestown, Idaho. (east of Shelley). He went to Shelley High school where he was involved in sports all four years, especially football and boxing. He won several state championships in boxing. In his later years, he became an avid fan of I.S.U. football and had a season ticket for many years.

Soon after graduating from High School he entered World War II. He tried to enlist in the Navy but because of a childhood injury was placed on limited service. He was assigned to La Garde General Hospital in New Orleans where he drove ambulance.

He married Norma Brown on May 12, 1948 in Goshen, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Upon returning home he entered the Vo Tech at I.S.U.where he took welding and body and fender skills he used to provide for his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a welder for J.R. Simplot plant for 30 years.

He was an active member of the L.D.S. church until his health failed. He loved being involved in the church, especially being a ward clerk. After retiring, he spent much time doing wood working which he greatly enjoyed. He will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Norma; 1 son, Irvin "Mark" Scott; 3 daughters, Kerry Scott (William) Wright, American Falls, Idaho; Dawn Scott (Steve R.) Gallafent, Pocatello; Penny Scott (Brian) Dickey, Pocatello; 1 brother, Ishmael A. (Elaine) Scott, Wendell, Idaho; 1 sister, Lucille Scott (James) Crouson, Wendell, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren;

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Lloyd Edgar Scott, Melvin W. Scott, and J. Riley Scott; 1 great grandchild, David Michael Hansen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. 41st Ward Chapel (1700 Kinghorn) with Bishop Carl B. Holm officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 at the church. Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
