Iris passed away while enjoying a visit with her children In Utah. She was born on May 25, 1928 in Chappell Nebraska the daughter of Marvin Rufus and Margaret Ellen Jackson Cross.
She married Andrew Charles Matkin November 18, 1944 and together they had five children whom she loved dearly. Jay, Margaret, Andrea, Randy and Kim. Andrew passed away May 23, 1968. She married Lynn Dale Glover October 4, 1969 and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Iris had a strong love for her Savior Jesus Christ and a testimony of the power of prayer. She believed that families can be together forever and wanted that for her family. Iris was a wonderful hostess and held many family and friend gatherings over the years. She loved to cook and welcomed anyone and everyone into her home. She had many friends and loved her weekly card games with her friends, too many to name. She was a hard worker and held many jobs over the years retiring from the Wonder Bread Thrift Store in Pocatello. Iris loved animals and was left over the years with many pets that others could no longer take care of. She is survived by her loving K-9 companion Cuddles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son Jay, daughter Andrea, granddaughter Amber Matkin, great granddaughters Shelby Fritz and Emily Matkin. Also preceding her in death are her brothers Robert and William Cross and step sons Royce and Kayle Matkin.
She is survived by her children Margaret (Bill) Arnold, Layton Utah; Randy (Nancy) Matkin, Clearfield Utah and Kim (Kym) Matkin, Pocatello; daughter in law Annette Matkin, South Jourdan Utah; son in law Jim Phelps, Pocatello; grandchildren Shawna (Chris) Fritz, Tammy (John) Arnold, RC Phelps and JD (Jenny) Phelps, Erin Pince, ShyAnn, Timothy and Andrea Matkin. Iris was lovingly called Nana by her great grandchildren: Chelsey (Mitch) Sorenson, Joey, Christopher and Sheldon Fritz, DJ Rhodes, Shaylee Wakefield, Kiarra and Kyler Phelps, Celeste and Noah Matkin, Lilly Bumanlag and Samantha Porter. She was so proud of each and every one of them.
She was also survived by siblings Harold Cross, Eldorado Kansas; Phyllis Edgerton, Meridian Idaho and Ruth Teeter, Emmett Idaho as well as numerous in laws, nieces, nephews and step son Doyle Matkin, Pocatello Idaho.
We would like to thank our dear life-long friend and neighbor Phyllis Wilson for all she did for our Mom.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. with Bishop Tom Tucker of the Chubbuck 8th Ward officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
