Pocatello - Iris June Alley, 77, of Pocatello, and formerly of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho was reunited with her husband, father and mother for a beautiful Mothers Day reunion on Sunday, May 10, 2009.
She was born June 22, 1931 in Kemmerer, Wyoming to Ted and Frances Julian O'Neill. On August 12, 1950, she married the love of her life, Wayne Alley in Paris, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in November 1962.
Iris graduated Salutatorian from Cokeville High School in Cokeville, Wyoming where she was also active in FHA, Student Council, and cheerleading. She was also the Rodeo Queen.
Upon graduation, she embarked on her journey of lifelong service. First and foremost raising her family and working alongside her husband in the ventures ranging from politics to farming. Always an advocate for learning, she was the recipient of numerous leadership awards and acknowledged for tutoring and youth service activities. Her creative artistic side was seen throughout the community in the road shows, live plays and art. In 1969, she was instrumental in establishing and serving as the President of the Bannock County Republican Women and served in numerous church callings throughout her life. Iris's later years were spent serving in the Idaho Falls Temple and serving two missions for the L.D.S. Church at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. She very much enjoyed doing family genealogy.
Survivors include; 2 sons, Douglas Wayne (Kathy) Alley, Robert Lee (LaDonna) Alley, all of Pocatello; 2 daughters, Renea (Wesley) Nelson, Boise, Idaho; Shannon (Curt) Buckley, Bancroft, Idaho; 2 brothers, Clyde (Rita) O'Neill, Long Beach, CA.; Don O'Neill, Touchet, WA.; 3 sisters, Mary (Glenn) Perkins; Loah Faye all of Pocatello; Lois Ford. 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, William O'Neill and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alameda Third Ward (954 E. Walnut) with her son Bishop Douglas Wayne Alley, officiating. Interment will be in the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
