Hubert Mark Dahlstrom, long time resident of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away October 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
He was 94 years old and when his family and friends would visit him his parting words to them would be "Don't get old, Don't get old! He always said,"I'll leave a light on!"
He was born in Paul, Idaho, on January 31, 1919, to John Basil Dahlstrom, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Marybell Wardell, Parowan, Utah.
He was married to his childhood sweetheart on July 30, 1940 in the Logan,Temple. His wife Leota of 71 years preceded him in death on July 2, 2012.
He is survived by his brother, Max Dahlstom, his children, Gary (Elaine) Dahlstrom; LoRene (Paul) Sorensen, Grant (Luci) Dahlstrom; Luann (Ron) Andrews; 23 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren. Two of his children preceded him in death; Mark Dahlstrom and Coralee Worthen.
Hubert is a World War II Veteran. He served over seas in Germany and often talked of some of his harrowing experiences. After returning home, from the war, he served proudly in the National Guard.
He held various positions in the L.D.S. Church; Ward Clerk, Scout Leader, Dance Director, etc. along with his wife Leota. They loved the Gold & Green Balls and danced their way thur many of them.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Because of his love of the outdoors, he looked forward to the camping trips with the scouts and his own three sons. He said, "If he had his choice his favorite job would have been a forest ranger."
He and his wife were members of a local square dance club and both enjoyed in and out of town dances. He was on a bowling team.
He went to work for O.P. Skaggs in 1938 and went to work for Railway Express in 1943. He was laid off from O.P. Skaggs and found work with Bennett's Idaho Glass and Paint but continued to work double shifts to make sure bills were paid. He and his wife Leota was totally out of debt when he was inducted into the Army in 1944. He retired from Bennett's Idaho Glass and Paint in 1980 after 44 years. He continued to do odd jobs for friends and family for sometime. He just liked being busy and helping others.
He always worked very hard and passed that on to all 6 children. He always told them to be proud of what you do, do it right the first time so you don't have to do it over and then "Own It"
He loved all the visits and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and their families. Every time he'd learn of a new addition to the family it was a big thumbs up with a big grin, the more the merrier!
