Homer S. Satterfield Pocatello - Homer Stuart Satterfield, 91, prominent longtime businessman and church leader in Pocatello, passed away Saturday evening October 13, 2007 from causes incident to age.

He was born October 4, 1916 in his parents home in Pocatello, a son of Ammon Y and Jane Spence Satterfield. In his youth he spent considerable time working in the family coal, grain and supply business. He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School and then attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch (now ISU) for 2 years and worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the Pacific Fruit Express. He then served a mission for the L.D.S. Church from 1936 to 1938 in the Southern States. On February 14, 1940 he married Marguerite Jones in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. Following World War II he went to work in the family insurance business. He was a driving force behind the creation of Satterfield Realty, which has been responsible for the residential development of a large portion of Pocatello including in later years the Highland Bench area. He was past president of the Pocatello Realtors Association, the Idaho Realtors Association and was active in the National Association of Realtors.

He had served in many capacities in the L.D.S. Church, including Sunday School superintendent, bishop, high counselor, Stake President, Mission President (in Minnesota) Patriarch of the Highland Stake and a sealer in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was also active in Scouting and received the Silver Beaver award. He was chairman of the Pocatello Chapter of the Red Cross at the time of the disastrous flood of 1963.

He always had a smile and was so willing to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and associates.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marguerite Satterfield, Pocatello; 4 sons, Douglas S. Satterfield, Orem, Utah; Steven (Anita) Satterfield, Pocatello; B. Scott (Dana) Satterfield, Sandy, Utah; Bruce K. (Carol) Satterfield, Iona, Idaho; 2 daughters, Linda L. Bearup and Margo J. Satterfield, both of Pocatello; a brother, H. Jack Satterfield, Pocatello; 3 sisters, Grace Bagwell, Veda Anderson and Jean Simpson, all of Pocatello. 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Rulon and Charles (Chick), 2 sisters, Lucille and Ruby, 1 grandson, Jordan and 2 infant great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Highland Stake Center (2140 Satterfield Dr.) with Bishop Ramey Remington, of the Meadowbrook Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning- Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N.12th Ave. and Friday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
