Pocatello - Harry (Petey) DeWall, 81, longtime resident of Pocatello passed away Friday morning February 4, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born October 5, 1929 in Clearlake, South Dakota, a son of Harry and Mary Maifiel DeWall. His family moved to Utah when he was a young boy and he attended schools in Layton, Utah and graduated from Davis High School in Layton, Utah. While in high school, he was also active in Golden Gloves Boxing.
On November 18, 1949, he married Helen Walker in Ogden, Utah. Harry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was involved in several critical battles.
Harry and Helen moved to Pocatello in about 1960 when he became associated with Park Price Motors as a car salesman and continued working for them and later when it was Robert Allen Auto Group for over 40 years retiring about 2 years ago. He loved his worked and met and made many friends over the years. He was known as a straight shooter and you could depend on his word.
He served as Past President of the Alameda Kiwanis Club and also served as a volunteer reader for School District #25 at Bonneville Elementary School. He greatly enjoyed skiing, golf and playing pool. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. Harry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Helen DeWall of Pocatello, Idaho; a son Scott (Jalyn) DeWall, Pocatello, Idaho; 5 grandchildren, Joni DeWall, Brock DeWall, Justin DeWall, Adam Harker, Dustin DeWall, a great-granddaughter, Hanna and 2 great-grandsons, Jay and Dawson. a brother, Kermit (Kathleen) DeWall, Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Jim and Mick.
Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. with military rites performed by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, Harry's family suggests donations by made to the Idaho Food Bank. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
