Pocatello-Harold Howard Paige, 80, lifelong resident of Pocatello, passed away June 3, 2011 at Portneuf Medical Center due to complications from diabetes.
He was born May 20, 1931 in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Howard Reynold and Lillian Matilda Bier Paige.
He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School as class salutatorian. He attended Idaho State University and received a BS degree in Chemistry as well as post graduate studies. He was a honor student and belonged to Phi Sigma Kappa. Harold started working at Eddie's Bakery when his father passed away when he was 13 years old to help provide for his family.
He married Rosalie Dickson, in May 1960 in Pocatello, Idaho. They were later divorced. He married Shari Hokanson, in May 1972 in Pocatello, Idaho. Shari passed away in 1981. He then married Nadine Emerson, in Sept. 1983 in Jerome, Idaho.
Soon after he graduated from Idaho State University, he was hired by Admiral Rickover at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). He taught navy sailors about nuclear power and radiation. He was an instructor and wrote the nuclear book for the submarine Nautilus who's reactor was built at the INL. He worked at the INL for a total of 53 years.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as Church Treasurer, Church Superintendent, Sabbath School Teacher, Bulletin Secretary and numerous other positions at church. He enjoyed camping with his family and very much enjoyed reading. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Nadine Paige, Pocatello, Idaho; 7 sons, Allan (Janet) Paige, Chubbuck, Idaho; David (Gilda) Paige, Walla Walla, Washington; Doug Paige, Aurora, Colorado; David Hokanson Blackfoot, Idaho; Michael (Dawn) Hokanson, Amity, Oregon; Gilbert Hokanson, Ontario, Oregon; Van (Laura) Emerson, Chubbuck, Idaho; Ric (Anita) Emerson, Chubbuck, Idaho; 5 daughters, Michelle (William) Ellen, Missoula, Montana; Val (Dan) D'Eon, Twin Falls, Idaho; Shadow Cossaboom, Pocatello, Idaho; Vicki (Bill) Spar, Ada, Ohio; Brenda (Mark) Hannah, Kenton, Ohio. a brother, Earl (Rhea) Paige, Boise, Idaho; a sister, Dorothy Scherbel, Pocatello, Idaho; 24 grandchildren, 14, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Norma Bauer, Louise Hatch, Delores Freckleton.
Memorial funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (253 Valleyview Dr) with Pastor Dean Lifshay,officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave..
